STUNT DRIVER CHARGED (WAWA, ON) – On June 28, 2012 at 8:00 pm Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Detachment in Wawa were conducting radar patrol on Highway 17 in Lendrum Township.

STUNT DRIVER CHARGED

(WAWA, ON) – On June 28, 2012 at 8:00 pm Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Detachment in Wawa were conducting radar patrol on Highway 17 in Lendrum Township.  A 1995 Dodge Caravan was recorded driving in excess of 50 kilometres per hour of the posted 90 kilometres per hour speed limit. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver, 34 year old Benjamin AGOC of Mississauga, Ontario was charged under section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.  The accused driver’s license was seized and the vehicle was impounded for the mandatory 7 days.

The accused received a summons to attend Provincial Offences Court in Wawa on August 16, 2012.

ATTEMPT BREAK IN AT SEASONAL RESIDENCE

(HAWK JUNCTION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Wawa Detachment was dispatched to a possible break and enter to a cottage on Maple St in Hawk Junction.  The officers were advised on June 30, 2012 and it is believed that the attempt was made sometime between that day and June 16.

OPP found that no entry was made in to the cottage and believe that the culprits were scared off during the act.  Investigation in to this matter is continuing.  Anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

ROAD DETOUR ADVISORY

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) advise that Ontario Avenue will be closed off north of Brunswick Walk to Veterans Way in Elliot Lake between 1:00 pm and 9:00 pm today in order to facilitate the visitation times at Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre for one of the victims of last week’s mall roof collapse.

Motorists are advised that during this time Brunswick Walk to Manitoba Road will be available to be used as an alternate route.

A designated area will be available for attending media.

FEMALE DIES AS RESULT OF SINGLE VEHICLE ROLLOVER

(BURK’S FALLS, ON) On Monday July 02, 2012 at 5:28 PM Alamaguin Highlands OPP responded to a single vehicle rollover on the southbound lanes of Highway 11 in Armour Township just south of Burk’s Falls, Ontario. Upon arrival at the scene it was determined that three females in their late teens were in a 2003 Pontiac Montana Van Brown in colour. The van left the highway losing control then rolled over causing one the females to be ejected from the vehicle. This female died at the scene of the collision. The two other females have been airlifted by air ambulance to Sunny Brook Hospital in Toronto.

The deceased female a passenger in the vehicle has now been identified as Sara Nicole GIRARD age 17 of Stouffville, Ontario. A post Mortem examination is being conducted in Bracebridge today Tuesday July 03, 2012 to determine the exact cause of death.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, the driver a 17 year old female from Markham, Ontario and a passenger an 18 year old female from Stouffville, Ontario remain in critical condition in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.

Highway 11 south bound lanes remained closed while the investigation of the collision was being completed. A detour routing traffic around the collision scene was established. Highway 11 was reopened to all traffic at 2:00 AM this morning.

The investigation is continuing and being conducted by members of the Alamaguin Highlands OPP and assistance with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.
