THEFT OF GOLF EQUIPMENT

(CHAPLEAU) – On July 15, 2009 a local resident attended the Chapleau OPP Detachment to report that between June 26 and June 27, 2009 person(s) unknown entered his 2007 Ford Edge and removed two sets of golf clubs and related equipment. The theft occurred on Adele Street in Chapleau.

Items stolen include the following:
(1) Set of women’s left handed clubs in a black golf bag with “PING” written on the sleeve and a yellow “King Cobra” snake of the arm part of the bag. The clubs are Ping eye 2 irons “1970”; Black series wedge 56-60 degrees; Ping Pal putter; Rapture 3 wood; 2 titlist gloves; a black and white umbrella; a charcoal grey rain suit and two dozen golf balls.
(2) Set of men’s right handed clubs; one pair of Nike shoes – (one shoe was recovered near-by); a red/white/blue PING Hoofer bag decaled with Montreal Canadian decorations/patches. Clubs are full bladed Nicky Victory red series irons; a tailor made R9 driver 460CC; a 3 wood 15 degree and a 5 wood 21 degree, tailor made; two Titlist wedges, a 56 degree and a 60 degree Vokey series; an Odyssey putter; a chrome series 54 degree tailor made rack; 3 dozen Prov 1 golf balls; 4-5 pair of golf gloves; a matching charcoal grey rain suit and a blue/white umbrella.

Total value of both sets is approximately $4500.00. It is believed that the vehicle was unlocked at the time of the theft.

KICKED WINDOW NETS SEVERAL CHARGES FOR A LOCAL MALE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On the 16th of July 2009 at approximately 9:07 p.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP attended an apartment building on Beckett Boulevard in Elliot Lake regarding a possible assault.

On scene police learned that the suspect had allegedly kicked a window of the main entrance and when approached by a resident of the building, assaulted the resident.

Charged with the following is Joshua SMYTHE (19) of Elliot Lake.

SMYTHE is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 1, 2009.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP has charged three (3) after a busy weekend.

- On July 18, 2009 an officer during a routine traffic stop, stopped a male operating an ATV at the municipal airport of Elliot Lake. Charged with Exceed 80 is Adam GRAY (27) of Hanmer.

- During a R.I.D.E. spot check on Highway 108 on July 18, 2009 at approximately 8:00 p.m. officers arrested and charged a driver. Charged with the following is Patrick C. PAQUET (32) of Wahnapitae.

- Later during the evening of July 18, 2009 at approximately 11:45 p.m. police conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check on Highway 108 attempted to stop a vehicle. The vehicle fail to stop for police and was located a short later by police. Charged with the following is RYLAN PILBACKA (20) of Whitefish.

GRAY, PAQUET and PILBACKA are scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 6, 2009.

Road Closure Advisory

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Location: Hwy 17, Thessalon

Detachment area: East Algoma

Time of road closure: 2120hrs

Reason for the closure: Tractor Trailer lost partial load blocking highway and causing structural damage to highway. Minor injury to driver. Shoulder is open to alternating light traffic only. Heavy traffic unable to pass due to lack of strength of shoulder. No detour.

Detour: None at this time.

Estimated duration of closure: Unknown

Time road reopened: 12:33 a.m. open in both directions

FIREWORKS PUT IN MAILBOXES

(Vankoughnet Twp.,) – Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police and Goulais River First Response responded to a report of several mailboxes that were on fire in the 100 block of Kirby Road in Goulais River early this morning at 1:30 a.m.

Three mailboxes had been damaged by fireworks that had been placed in them. One mailbox was burned up entirely. The other 2 were metal and were charred from within.
