THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO KEEP US EMPLOYED

(Heyden, Ont.) A resident of Heyden called Sault Ste Marie OPP to indicate that he is prepared to help what appears to be some “weather challenged” snow machine riders.

Yesterday a resident of the Heyden Lake area called police to advise that a small number of snow machine operators are purposely running a large section of open water. He feels that it is just a matter of time before one of them goes into water and he now has placed a canoe on the shore at his house so a rescue attempt can be made.

Apparently at the headwaters of the Root River, in Heyden Lake, there is a large area of open water. Late at night the resident of that area often sees and hears the machines running the open water. He advised police that the area is spring fed and there is a lot of current in the lake and river in this area. The snow machines appear to be coming from the Trout Lake Road area of Heyden.

The life long resident of the area feels with the combination of the warm weather and the insistence of these “weather challenged” operators to continually run this piece of open water, that it is just a matter of time before someone will be going into the water.
