VICTIM IN TODAY’S FATAL CRASH IDENTIFIED

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are now releasing the identity of the woman killed in a fatal crash earlier this morning.

This morning at about 9:30a.m. a car was southbound on Hwy 17 in Heyden just north of the intersection of Hwy 556. At the same time a transport truck was traveling northbound on Hwy 17. Investigation and witness accounts indicate that the car was traveling south on the southbound shoulder of the highway. The driver of the car appeared to be having some difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle. The northbound transport saw the vehicle swerving and quickly started to slow down. The car slid into the path of the transport, colliding with the passenger side of the car.

The driver of the car was thrown out of the drivers seat and into the back area of the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt. Witnesses at the scene administered first aid to the woman. She was transported to Sault Area Hospital but where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the transport was in a state of distress and suffered minor injuries.

The victim has been identified as forty three (43) year old Carol Lynn BONIN of Northwood Drive in Heyden.

Sault Ste Marie OPP would like to thank all the motorists who witnessed the crash for stopping and trying their best to assist Ms. Bonin and providing police with valuable witness information about the crash.




ONE DEAD IN HWY 17 CRASH

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are confirming that one person has died as a result of a crash on Hwy 17 in Heyden.

Hwy 17 remains closed and will remain closed for hours as police investigate the crash. Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that the crash involved a transport and a car. The vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on Hwy 17. The crash site is locate on Hwy 17 north of Hwy 556, between the closed motel and the entrance to Rupert Acres Park


SERIOUS CRASH CLOSES HIGHWAY 17 NORTH OF SAULT STE MARIE

Heyden, Ont.,

A serious, possibly life threatening collision on Hwy 17 in Heyden has closed Hwy 17 in Heyden.

Hwy 17 just north of Hwy 556 (Searchmont Hwy) is closed in both directions. A collision involving a transport and a smaller vehicle has forced the closure of the highway.

North bound motorist are advised to use Hwy 556 and then Hwy 552. This route will bring motorist back on Hwy 17 in the Goulais River area.

Southbound motorist are asked to use Hwy 552 in Goulais River . Hwy 552 ends at Hwy 556. Turn right on Hwy 556 and this will bring you back to Hwy 17 in Heyden.

LOOSE TIRE CAUSES CRASH

Heyden, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 17 in Heyden yesterday morning.

At about 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning a Chev Blazer was traveling northbound on Hwy 17 in Heyden when one of the back tires let go and left the vehicle. The vehicle went off the highway and into the ditch. No one was injured in this incident and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The crash is still under investigation.
