(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Friday, December 2, 2011 at approximately 1:27 p.m. police were called to attend a store at 151 Ontario Avenue regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the suspect had attended the store and allegedly picked up two items and walked directly out of the store failing to pay for the items.  The suspect was approached by staff and police were called.

Charged with the following is Shelagh Heater GRANT (48) of Elliot Lake.

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of Property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court January 3, 2012.

 

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – A local male has been charged with theft after received a call from a local store at 151 Ontario Avenue.

December 5th, 2011 police were called to attend the store regarding the theft.  On scene, police learned that the suspect had attended the store at approximately 2:15 p.m. and purchased items.  Once the items were paid for he allegedly returned to other aisles in the store and proceeded to take more items.  After taking items the suspect attempted to leave the area without paying for the extra items.

Charged with Theft Under is Allan GOFENKO (57) of Elliot Lake.

The accused is scheduled to attend Elliot Lake court on January 3, 2012.

 

OPP WARN RESIDENTS AGAINST PHONE SCAM

(WAWA, ON) On December 6, 2011 a local Wawa resident reported receiving a fraudulent phone call the day before.  The caller identified himself as the elderly complainant’s grandson and provided the proper name.  The male suspect told him that he was in jail in Quebec and needed $1700 cash sent to him via Western Union.  A second call was received from another male suspect claiming to be the grandson’s lawyer and identified himself as Patrick Wilson.  Fortunately no money was sent and the complainant was able to contact his grandson and confirm that the phone call was a scam.

The Ontario Provincial Police Superior East Detachments would like to remind everyone not to give personal information over the phone or to send money to anyone without confirming the caller’s identity and the validity of the information being provided.
