Echo Bay, Ont., A twenty six year old Echo Bay man is in police custody this morning after threatening to kill his ex-wife. Just after the supper hour yesterday the woman was contacted by her ex spouse and certain monetary demands were made to her.

A twenty six year old Echo Bay man is in police custody this morning after threatening to kill his ex-wife.

Just after the supper hour yesterday the woman was contacted by her ex spouse and certain monetary demands were made to her. If these demands were not met then the estranged spouse clearly indicated that certain life threaten circumstances would occur.

As a result of that conversation police attended a home in Echo Bay and arrested the man. He has been in police custody all night and will appear in bail court this morning. He has been charged with one count of Threatening to Cause Death or Bodily Harm.

(Markstay Warren, Ont.) At about 03:45 am, December 14th, 2004, members of the Warren OPP Satellite Detachment responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 17, approximately 100 meters West of Pioneer Road in Markstay Warren.
A tractor trailer from Purolator was traveling West on Highway 17 when it crossed the East bound lane striking the South side guardrails, coming to rest on the South side railroad tracks, owned by Ottawa Valley Railway.
The 48 year old driver from Gloucester Ontario was transported to St Joseph’s Hospital in Sudbury with minor injuries.
All railroad traffic has been halted, pending the removal of the truck.
Investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

(Spring Bay, Ontario) – Manitoulin OPP have received positive confirmation on the identity of the human remains that were located in the scene of a house fire that occurred in the early morning hours on Thursday December 2, 2004 at Perivale Road on Manitoulin Island.
A Manitoulin man who was the owner and occupant of the residence has been identified as the victim of the fire. He has been identified as William Arleigh Coulam age 55 of 2040 Perviale Road West, Spring Bay, Ontario.
The Central Manitoulin, Gore Bay, and Burpee Mills Volunteer Fire Departments responded shortly after midnight on December 2.
The house was engulfed in flames upon arrival and was completely destroyed.
A joint investigation with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Manitoulin O.P.P. are continuing into cause of the fire.

The OPP are advising the public that Highway 17 in the Markstay Warren area is now closed to traffic, for both lanes.
This is as the result of a single motor vehicle accident, earlier today.
It is estimated that the highway will be closed for at least two hours.
The public will now be re-routed through the appropriate detours.
The OPP will advise when Highway 17 is re-opened.


Highway 17 to be closed during clean-up
The OPP are advising the public that Highway 17 in the Markstay Warren area will be closed to co-ordinate clean up, as the result of a single motor vehicle accident in the early hours of 14 December 2004.
Both lanes will be closed near Pioneer Road, with the traffic being re-routed through detours.
Highway 17 Eastbound traffic will be re-routed to Highway 537 in Wahnapitae, onto Highway 69 South, then Highway 64 in French River, back onto Highway 17 East.
Highway 17 Westbound traffic will be re-routed to Highway 535 onto Highway 64 in French River, then back onto Highway 69 North into Sudbury.
The OPP will advise when this road closure will begin.
