POLICE KEPT BUSY DURING SPANISH ROCK N’ ROAR WEEKEND (Spanish, ON.) – Officers from the East Algoma OPP detachment were kept busy during the Spanish Rock n’ Roar Weekend.
POLICE KEPT BUSY DURING SPANISH ROCK N’ ROAR WEEKEND
(Spanish, ON.) – Officers from the East Algoma OPP detachment were kept busy during the Spanish Rock n’ Roar Weekend. Officers responded to 26 calls for service in the Spanish area during the two day event. As a result police charged 9 people with Liquor Licence Act offences for having open liquor in public or being intoxicated in a public place. Officers also checked 376 vehicles during various R.I.D.E. checks. The weekend also resulted in three more serious incidents.

On Friday August 13, 2010 at 11:14 p.m. officers came across a vehicle parked in a wooded area off Colonization road in Spanish. When officers approached the vehicle they observed a male with open alcohol in his hand and a small baggy on the dash with what containing what appeared to be cannabis marihuana. The officer arrested the male for possession of a controlled substance and transported him to the Mobile Command Station for processing. Charged is 18 year old Johnathan Robert HEMBRUFF of Blind River. HEMBRUFF is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and being under 19 years having liquor contrary to section 30(8) of the Liquor Licence Act. HEMBRUFF was released and is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on October 7, 2010.

On Sunday August 15, 2010 at 12:55 a.m. officers were called to assist with a male who was acting in a disorderly manner. When officers approached the male he became aggressive towards police. One officer was assaulted during the incident. Once officers gained control of the male he was brought to a waiting cruiser where he broke the rear window using his head. Charged is 19 year old Jesse Lee LEADSOM of Spanish. LEADSOM has been charged with the following offences:

1) Assault Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal code
2) Resisting Arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
3) Mischief under $5000.00, contrary to Section 430(4) of the Criminal Code

LEADSOM is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on October 7, 2010.

On August 15, 2010 at 1:37 a.m. officers were removing a person who was acting is a disorderly manner when a friend attempted to come to his rescue. After being cautioned by police not to interfere, he continued anyway and was also arrested. Charged is 23 year Andre POIRIER of Spanish. POIRIER has been charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code and Assaulting a Peace Officer contrary to section 270(1) (b). He is scheduled to appearing Blind River court on October 7, 2010
