Hwy 556 Ranger Lake Rd Closed at Ranger Lake

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) The Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is wanting to advise the public that Hwy 556 – known as The Ranger Lake Rd is closed at the bridge near the Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Base.

Due to high water levels on Ranger Lake and heavy run off into the river the structural safety of the bridge is not known. Hence the Hwy will be closed until the bridge is properly examined.

Hwy 556 is in good condition and passable to the bridges location but access across the bridge will not be permitted under any circumstances.

POLICE MAKE ARREST REGARDING THREE BREAK ENTER AND THEFTS

(Blind River, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has arrested and charged two youths regarding a Break Enter and Theft in Spanish, Ontario and two Break Enter and Theft in Serpent River First Nations.

Charged with Break Enter and Theft (X2) is a 16-year-old male youth. The youth remains in custody. Also charged is another 16-year-old male youth with one count of Break Enter and Theft. He is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court May 6th, 2008.

The names of the above charged youths will not be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police have also issued a warrant for a 18-year-old male in relations to a Break Enter and Theft in Serpent River First Nations.

BUILDING VANDALIZED IN SEARCHMONT

(Gaudette Twp., Ont.) Between Thursday April 24th and Sunday April 27th St. Hubert’s Roman Catholic Church on Highway 532 in Searchmont was broken into.

The lock to the Church was broken and entered into. Once inside all the windows and lights were smashed and furniture and hymn books vandalized.

The property had recently been purchased by a local resident and the Church was no longer operational.
