SMELT FISHING LEADS TO DRUGS CHARGES (Blind River, ON.) – On April 15, 2011 officers from East Algoma OPP detachment along a Conservation Officer from the MNR were checking vehicles near Lauzon Creek in Algoma Mils, the site of the annual smelt run.
SMELT FISHING LEADS TO DRUGS CHARGES
(Blind River, ON.) – On April 15, 2011 officers from East Algoma OPP detachment along a Conservation Officer from the MNR were checking vehicles near Lauzon Creek in Algoma Mils, the site of the annual smelt run. Officers checked a pickup with four males and located a small quantity of suspected marijuana. Charged with possession of a controlled substance are 25 year old Billy BREAULT from Warren and 27 year old Bruce RATTU from Dowling. Both males were released and are scheduled to appear in Blind River court on June 7, 2011.

OPP INVESTIGATE ARSON FIRE AT MANITOULIN SECONDARY SCHOOL
(Billings Township, On) - On Tuesday 19 April 2011 at 10:00 AM Manitoulin OPP were called to respond to a fire at Manitoulin Secondary School in Billings Township. Members of Volunteer Fire Departments were on scene and had the fire extinguished upon police arrival. All students were evacuated safely with no injuries reported.

The fire started in one of the washrooms of the school and police are treating this as arson in this prilimary investigation. As a precaution all students were sent home as the fire damage is investigated.

OPP have arrested one male young person and he is presently being held for a bail hearing.

This investigation is continuing with members of the Manitoulin OPP along with officers from the OPP Northeast Region Crime Unit. The OPP Forensic Identification Unit is also on scene along with members of the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office.

Manitoulin Secondary School is advising that classes will resume as normal on Wednesday Morning 20 April 2011.
