Iron Bridge Vandalisms Solved (Iron Bridge, ON.) – On April 12, 2009 at 12:30 a.m. police received a call that once again mailboxes along Eley Rd in Iron Bridge were being smashed.

(Iron Bridge, ON.) – On April 12, 2009 at 12:30 a.m. police received a call that once again mailboxes along Eley Rd in Iron Bridge were being smashed. East Algoma officers from both the Thessalon and Blind River detachments responded to the area. Police received information that a small red car with a spoiler on the rear was responsible for the damages. Officers later observed a red Sunfire in the Dean Lake area travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped, the driver and the two male passengers admitted to smashing the mailboxes as well as doing the same the week prior.
The 17 year old male driver from Algoma Mills who can not be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) was charged with 4 Highway Traffic Act and1 Liquor Licence Act offences.

After admitting to all the mischief’s that had occurred within the past two weeks in that area the driver along with his 16 year male passenger from Algoma Mills were dealt with by way of a youth diversion under the YCJA. The other passenger, an 18 year old male from Elliot Lake was not charged. The three male have agreed to pay for all the damages they were responsible for.

This investigation resulted in 36 mischief incidents being solved, 4 Highway Traffic Act and 1 Liquor Licence Act charge being laid against the driver.

CRIMESTOPPERS CRIME OF THE WEEK

(Wawa, Ont) – Superior East OPP in Wawa, Ontario is asking for the public’s assistance in solving the following incident;

During the early morning hours of Saturday April 11, 2009 the Northern Auto Service Station on Highway 17, 85 kms south of Wawa was found to be on fire. The fire was reported by a passing motorist. This business has been closed for more than a year and no one was residing there.

The Batchawana Fire Department, assisted by the Wawa Fire Department attended the business and discovered all three buildings on the property totally engulfed in flames. They fought the fire until all flames were extinguished but were unable to save any of the buildings.

Investigation is continuing into this suspicious fire with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal, North East Regional OPP Forensic Identification Unit and The OPP Crime Unit.

The OPP is requesting anyone who may have any information in this incident to call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

SUPERIOR EAST OPP INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS FIRE

(Wawa, Ontario) Superior East OPP, Wawa are investigating a suspicious fire that was reported by a motorist driving by in the early morning hours of April 11th 2009 at Northern Auto Service Station situated on Hwy 17, 85 kms south of Wawa.

Batchawana Fire Dept attended the scene and were assisted by the Wawa Fire Dept. There was no one living there at the time and the business has been closed for more than a year. The three buildings that were completely engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived could not be saved.
Batchawana Fire Dept fought the fire well into the morning until all fires were out.

The Ontario Fire Marshal, North East Regional OPP Forensic Identification Unit and OPP Crime Unit attended the scene and are assisting the Wawa OPP with their investigation of this suspicious fire.

The investigation is continuing and OPP are requesting anyone with information to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
