SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - On July 8, 2017 at approximately 11:40 p.m. an officer from the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) traveling on Third Line East stopped a westbound vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcohol. As a result of police investigation, 49 year old Richard DEAR of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving a motor vehicle  with More than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Fail to Have Valid Insurance Card contrary to Section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Fail To Have Proper Tail-lights contrary to Section 62 of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on August 14, 2017.
