Traffic complaints lead to impaired driving charge in Hilton Beach area

HILTON BEACH – On May 13, 2020, at approximately 10:20 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several traffic complaints of a possible impaired driver in the Hilton Beach area.    

OPP located the vehicle on Bowker Street in Hilton Beach. The driver failed to stop for police and drove to a local hotel several metres away. Once the vehicle stopped, police spoke with the vehicle driver and concluded alcohol had been consumed. At 11:50 a.m., officers arrested the driver.    

As a result of the investigation, Justin Jones, age 36, from Caledon, was charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); 
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC; and with  
  • Flight from peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC;    

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 2, 2020.
