A 2006 Mercury Station wagon towing a boat trailer drove off on the south shoulder of the highway and hit the gravel. The 16 foot aluminum boat that was on the trailer flipped off and ended up in the median ditch.

VANDALISM AT ECHO BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL CAUSING CONCERN

(MacDonald Twp., ON) Over the last several days, Echo Bay Public School has been the recipient of vandalism.

The Preschool playground had been vandalized with damage to a birdfeeder, a tree and a daycare phone found in pieces buried in various places around the school yard. The fence was damaged and the chain link bent.

This past weekend, school officials discovered that three chimney stacks on the roof had been knocked over, and a natural gas line was bent.

A gazebo on the property had a roof overhang made of 2 x 6 planks which were also damaged.

Whoever is doing the damage to the school is climbing onto the roof by using an outside power line that runs up the side of the school. This could cause serious injury or death.

The natural gas line that was bent, if it had been broken, could have caused an explosion.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at

OPERATION IMPACT SET TO GO FOR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) In conjunction with the fall seatbelt campaign, officers from the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be participating in the nationwide, Operation Impact, to be held from noon on Friday, October 10th until midnight Monday, October 13th, 2008.

This initiative has been strategically chosen, as it is a significant long weekend. More people are traveling and traffic collisions are more frequent.

This special weekend is a police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority.

The focus will be on behaviors that put drivers, passengers, and other road users at most risk: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive driving.

Every year locally, people die and receive serious injuries related to vehicle collisions. They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, loved ones, co-workers, neighbors. “The deaths, pain and broken hearts that result from carelessness behind the wheel can be prevented”, says Sgt. Bob Fremlin of the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment. “Police agencies across the country are collaborating on this project because they have seen more than enough of that, and because they know that the involvement of the driving public is essential to achieve safer streets and highways.”

Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and Transport Canada and is part of Road Safety Vision 2010, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2010.
