OPP TO FOCUS ON SAFE DRIVING PRACTICES THIS THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – October 8 to 11, 2010 will mark Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

Sault Ste. Marie OPP will be participating in this police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of police enforcement is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.

It is a time to remind drivers and passengers to consider safety whenever they get behind the wheel. The focus will be on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive driving.

“The tragedy and pain that results from carelessness behind the wheel can be prevented,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Todd Pelletier of Sault Ste. Marie OPP. “Police agencies across the country are collaborating towards a common purpose as they have witnessed too many needless accidents. The motoring public must be fully engaged and take ownership of their personal driving habits to achieve safer streets and highways.”

Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and Transport Canada and is part of Road Safety Vision 2010, which has a goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world by 2010.
