KEEP TRAFFIC SAFETY IN MIND ON HALLOWEEN

Traffic Safety Tips for Motorists, Parents and Young ‘Trick or Treaters’

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Halloween means a lot of excited children on or near roadways and drivers need to be on the look out for young ‘trick or treaters’.

Avoid driving in subdivisions during the hours of 6 – 9 pm when most trick or treating takes place.

Stay well below the speed limit and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

Distracted driving is dangerous, refrain from using cell phones or electronic devices that take your focus away from driving.

Pay extra attention to what is going on around you. Be conscious of sidewalks and roadways and watch for any children darting across the street or in between parked cars.

Walk around your vehicle before backing out of your driveway. When pulling in or out of driveways stay alert of your surroundings.

Costume masks and hoods can impair a child’s vision, use make up instead.

Choose light colored costumes and add reflective tape.

Always accompany your young child. Older children should go out as a group, stay in familiar, well lit areas and have a curfew.

Instruct children to walk on the sidewalk and to always look both ways before crossing the street. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing the traffic well off the roadway.

BE SAFE – BE SEEN!
