(Blind River, Ont.) Internet users have been targeted by scam artists to give up personal information.
East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police have been made aware that some people have received some e-mail from what appears to be a legitimate web site in an attempt to coerce them into giving up some account information.

The two e-mails were from bogus addresses purporting to be RBC Financial and Sears. The O.P.P. contacted both companies and were assured that they would not operate in such a manner.

If you receive similar e-mails do not follow the links or provide account information to the solicited e-mail.

Log onto the official site and use their links to report such Fraud or go to your local representatives in person to conduct your business.



$20.00 Counterfeit Bill

Elliot Lake, Ont. On November 15, 2006 the East Algoma OPP attended a local fast food establishment on Highway 108 regarding a possible counterfeit.

The $20.00 bill bearing serial #AGG3367812 has been forwarded to the RCMP for further investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the above counterfeit bill is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-705-942-7867

ASSAULT CAUSE BODILY HARM

Elliot Lake, Ont. On November 15th, 2006 police attended St. Josephs Hospital in Elliot Lake regarding a possible assault where the alleged victim was been treated for injuries to his face, head, elbow and shoulder.

Police learned that at approximately 3:30 p.m. an unknown male and a female attended his apartment. The victim invited both parties into his apartment. The unknown male punched the victim several times and when the alleged suspect left the apartment, the victim attended a neighbour’s residence and an ambulance was contacted.

Charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Breach of Probation is Tyler Bradley MCNULTY (20) of Elliot Lake. MCNULTY remains in custody awaiting a Bail Hearing.

Taking Without Paying is THEFT!

Elliot Lake, Ont. Police have arrested a 30-year-old female in regards to a possible theft.

On November 15, 2006 police received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a theft. The investigation revealed that the female suspect was observed in the store taking items and leaving without paying.

Charged with Theft Under is Angela STEFANIK (30) of Elliot Lake. STEFANIK is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2007.

Investigation continuing.

WHO IS HANGING AROUND MY HOUSE??

Goulais River, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to a home in the Havilland Shores Drive area after the owner chased a person away from his car.

At about 1:00 a.m. this morning the owner of a home in the Albert Terrace and Havilland Shores Drive area hear a bang outside his house. He went outside and saw an unknown male beside his vehicle. The male took off running down Havilland Shores Drive and disappeared into the night. The suspect is described as about 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds. He was wearing jeans and a black “hoodie” sweater.

The complainant could not find anything missing around his property and doesn’t know what happened to make the loud sound. Patrols of the area were conducted and no one was located.

RANGER LAKE BREAK AND ENTER

Ranger Lake, Ont., Police were called to the MNR Forest Fire Camp at Ranger Lake after a break and enter was discovered.

Sometime over the past ten days thieves entered one of the buildings at the complex and stole bedding and food. MNR employees are conducting an inventory of the fire base to see if anything else is missing.
