MISCHIEF AT HYDRO DAM

(WAWA, ON) – On May 9th, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment was advised by Brookfield Renewable Power that a hydro dam site near Wawa had been vandalised sometime between May 2nd and May 9th.  The vandals had entered the property by digging under some fencing.  Damage was done to overhead lighting and switches.

The OPP and Brookfield Power would like the public to be aware of the potential danger they risk by entering these properties.  The area presents a significant safety concern if someone were to fall into the actual dam as the current from the power generator would pull a person underwater.  Anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
