UPDATE: SEVERAL CHARGES LAID IN POLICE PURSUIT (DESBARATS, ON.) – On March 5, 2009 at approximately 8:20am members of the East Algoma OPP received a complainant regarding a vehicle being driven erratically westbound on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines.
UPDATE: SEVERAL CHARGES LAID IN POLICE PURSUIT

(DESBARATS, ON.) – On March 5, 2009 at approximately 8:20am members of the East Algoma OPP received a complainant regarding a vehicle being driven erratically westbound on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines. The motor vehicle was later observed travelling on Highway 17 near Neebish Road. The suspect vehicle then turned around and proceeded eastbound in the westbound lane (of the 4 lanes). The suspect vehicle stopped on Highway 17 in Desbarats, Ontario. When the officer attempted to get out of his cruiser the suspect vehicle reversed striking the cruiser. The suspect vehicle then fled down Mink Point Rd, east of Desbarats. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Members of the Emergency Response Team and Canine attended the scene. The suspects were apprehended by members of the OPP and transported to Thessalon Detachment.

Kevin Blair PLAIN (42) of Sarnia, ON is facing the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle (x2)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
Flight from Police

PLAIN also faces a charge of Possession under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Lee Edward Joseph DION (23) of no fixed address is facing the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
Breach of Probation

Both are scheduled to appear in bail court in Sault Ste. Marie on March 6, 2009.

Stolen Vehicle- Pursuit

(Desbarats, ON.) – East Algoma OPP officers were involved in another fleeing suspect vehicle incident this morning.

At approximately 08:20 a.m. Police received a report of a vehicle that was driving erratically westbound on Hwy 17 near Bruce Mines.
Police observed the vehicle and found it near the St. Joseph’s Island turnoff travelling westbound in the eastbound lane. The suspects then turned around and were travelling eastbound in the westbound lane. The suspects then rammed a Police vehicle and fled down Mink Point Road where they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Unfortunately, for the suspects, the vehicle they had damaged was being operated by the Canine officer. The Canine officer and the Emergency Response Team were activated BUT before long two subjects were apprehended.

Police have arrested two individuals in relation to this incident. A 43-year-old male with and a 23-year-old male both of Sarnia are en-route to Bail court in Sault Ste. Marie and will be facing a multitude of charges relating to traffic violations and Criminal Code infractions.

Central Algoma Secondary School and Johnson Tarbutt public school were contacted during the event to ensure the safety of all students and Staff.

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER POLICE PURSUIT

(Thessalon, Ontario.) – On March 4, 2009 shortly before midnight the East Algoma OPP received a complaint of a Theft of Gas from a gas station located on Mississauga First Nation, west of Blind River, Ontario.

The motor vehicle involved was observed travelling westbound on Highway 17 east of Thessalon, Ontario. It was determined that the motor vehicle involved had been stolen from Sudbury, Ontario. The motor vehicle did not stop when directed by police. The motor vehicle was eventually brought to a stop west of Thessalon between two cruisers. The driver fled from the vehicle but was caught and placed under arrest.

Justin Joseph LEWIS (27) of Sudbury, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Fail to Provide Breath Sample
Theft (Gas)
Mischief under $5000
Drive Disqualified
Possession Break in Instruments
Possession Property Obtained by Crime
Breach of Probation Order (X2)

LEWIS is scheduled to appear in Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie today.
