Loggin Accident Sends Goulais River Man To Hospital

Searchmont, Ont.,

A fifty nine year old Goulais River man was taken to hospital by ambulance yesterday after a logging accident near Searchmont.

Yesterday at about 3:00 p.m. ambulance and police were called to a logging road near the Bellevue Valley train tressel just south of Searchmont. The operator of a skidder was found by a co-worker, trapped under the wheel of his skidder.

The investigation is indicating that the skidder operator was getting off the machine when he lost his footing. A piece of clothing caught on the reverse lever and the skidder backed over the man. The skidder stalled just as one of the wheels went over the mans legs. A co-worker arrived at the skidder a short time later and freed the trapped man.

The trapped worker was removed from the bush by the co-worker and transported to hospital by ambulance.

Fifty nine year old Guy DUPLIN, of Hwy 17 in Goulais River, was taken to Sault and Area Hospital with suspected leg and pelvis injuries. The Ministry of Labour was contacted and an investigator from the Ministry of Labour is continuing this investigation.
