(Thessalon, ON.) – On June 28, 2009, the East Algoma Thessalon OPP received a complaint regarding motor vehicles being entered and items stolen. At the same time the Police were also informed that a bicycle was stolen from the residence.

On June 30, 2009 a suspect was observed in the Town of Thessalon riding the stolen bicycle.

On July 6, 2009 the suspect was arrested and transported to the Thessalon Detachment. One Young Person has been charged under the Criminal Code with Theft and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The Young Person attended in bail court in Sault Ste. Marie on July 7, 2009. The Young Person is now scheduled to attend Sault Ste. Marie court on August 12, 2009 to answer to the charges.

TWO VEHICLE COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17 EAST

(MacDonald, Merideth, Aberdeen Twp.,) – OPP investigated a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 17 East and Watson’s Road yesterday morning at 7:30 a.m.

A black Ford pick up truck was northbound on Watson’s Road crossing the intersection of Highway 17 when it collided with a grey Ford van travelling eastbound on Highway 17.

Both vehicles were demolished.

The driver of the Ford pick up truck, 58 year old Jim Ritter of 226 Cemetary Road in Echo Bay, Ontario received minor injuries.

The female driver of the grey Ford van was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries and remains in the Sault Area Hospital.

Jim RITTER was charged with Fail To Yield contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Officer’s investigating this collision say that seatbelt usage and airbag deployment had a definite impact in saving the driver’s lives.
