ROAD SAFETY THE FOCUS FOR THIS CIVIC HOLIDAY

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) This weekend the men and women of the East Algoma OPP will be out diligently patrolling highways and roads. Speeding, following too closely, improper lane changes, improper passing, disobeying traffic control and failing to yield the right of way factors significantly in terms of the collisions investigated by the OPP. The East Algoma OPP urge motorists to consider their driving habits and commit to changing behaviours that put themselves and their family’s lives at risk.

The OPP is serious about aggressive driving, impaired driving, seat belt use, boat safety and recreational vehicle safety.

Drinking and driving on land or water is illegal and punishable under the criminal code.
An unexpected immersion in water can place you at risk. Wearing your life jacket gives you time to adjust to an emergency and assist others, perhaps even your child.

ATV riding too, is not without risk. In a matter of a few seconds lives can be changed forever. Know your machine, drive within your ability and keep alcohol out of the mix. Always wear an approved helmet and protective clothing.

“Drivers must slow down and everyone must buckle up,” states A/S/Sgt D. Thib. “Take the few seconds to buckle up. It can save your life and it’s the law!”

Enjoy the Civic Holiday weekend and make sure you keep safety in mind.
Drive Safe, Slow down and Drive Sober!
