(Montreal Mining Twp) Sault Ste Marie OPP is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the owner of a paddleboat that washed up on shore in Hibbard Bay yesterday afternoon. On the 10Jul13 OPP responded to a report of an 8’, orange paddleboat with a white bottom located on the shore approximately 10 km north of Pancake Bay. REFUSING TO PROVIDE IDENTIFICATION

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On July 10, 2013 at approximately 10:23 p.m. an officer of the East Algoma OPP while patrolling Highway 17, Huron Shores observed a male committing a Highway Traffic offence.  The officer stopped and the male refused to confirm his identity. 

The male was arrested and has been charged with Obstruct Police.  The male remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie on today’s date.

The name of the male will not be released pending confirmation of his identification. 

THEFT FROM MINER’S MEMORIAL PARK

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma OPP is requesting the assistance of the public in solving a theft report on June 17th, 2013.

Sometime between 5:00 p.m. June 14, 2013 and 12:30 p.m. June 17, 2013, unknown person(s) attended the Miner’s Memorial Park situation on Highway 108 and removed a Canadian Flag, a large green plastic hanging basket and three cedar boards from a sitting beach. 

Anyone with information regarding the above Theft is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Any information that leads to the arrests or identity of persons responsible can lead to a cash reward. You can remain anonymous and crime stoppers do not subscribe to call display.

CONFRONTATION LEADS TO ONE ASSAULT CHARGE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma OPP received a call on July 10th, 2013 at approximately 12:09 p.m. regarding a possible assault.

On scene police learned that the suspect had confronted the victim regarding a dog being tied in front of a business.  During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly spat on the victim.

Charged with Assault is Cynthia MINNICK (75) of Elliot Lake.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 3, 2013.

SIU INVESTIGATION

(HILTON BEACH, ON) –On July 9, 2013 at approximately 5:00 pm, officers with the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Hilton Beach, ON in regards to a family dispute. 

Upon arrival, OPP officers located an armed adult male in one of the rooms of the residence. A short time later, the subject gave himself up to police. He was treated by paramedics and was transferred to hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified of the incident and has invoked its mandate.  Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342
