INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO RANGER LAKE DEATH

Ranger Lake, Ont., Officers with the Sault Ste Marie detachment are continuing their investigation into the death of a man found lying on Ranger Lake Road this morning.

The preliminary investigation is indicating that the man was last seen in the area of a friends camp, on Ranger Lake, in the early morning hours. Temperatures in the Ranger Lake area last night were near –25 degrees celsius. The man left the camp and friends were unable to locate him. He was found this morning lying on Ranger Lake Road about 10 meters away from his machine. Police are still investigating and believe that alcohol consumption may have been a contributing factor in this death.

It is not yet known what the man died of. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow to determine the cause of death. The victim is identified as 68 year old Robert LAPOSSIE of Pozzebon Cresent, Sault Ste Marie.

No further details will be available until tomorrow.


SAULT OPP INVESTIGATE MAN FOUND DEAD ON RANGER LAKE ROAD

Ranger Lake, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP is presently investigating a report of a man found dead on Ranger Lake Road (Hwy 556) northeast of Searchmont.

Just after 7:00 a.m. this morning Sault OPP received a report of a man lying on Ranger Lake Road (Hwy 556) just past Ranger Lake at the 50 km marker. A snow machine, believed to have been operated by the deceased, was on the roadway nearby. Preliminary investigation is indicating that the deceased may have been there for some time. Members of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator are at the scene.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding this investigation will not be known until late this afternoon. Officers are still at the scene and will be there for several more hours. The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time. Further details will be sent out as they become available.
