ONE PERSON DECEASED

(Fenwick Twp., ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP along with Goulais River Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a structural fire to a residence in the 100 block of Bye’s Side Road in Fenwick Township at 11:33 am this morning. One person is deceased.

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment, OPP Forensic Indentification Unit, Office of the Fire Marshall and office of the Coroner are currently investigating.

BANK SKIMMING INSTRUMENTS LOCATED

(WHITE RIVER, On) – On Monday February 8, 2010 at approximately 3:25 pm Superior East OPP in White River received a complaint regarding a theft of gas at a local service station. The vehicle described as a Honda Civic had proceeded east on Highway 17 towards Wawa. At 3:50 pm a vehicle matching the description was located just south of the Highway 519 junction on Highway 17. The vehicle containing three occupants was stopped. While questioning the occupants police detected an odour of freshly burnt Cannabis. As a result of further investigation, a small amount of Marihuana and drug paraphernalia was located. The three subjects were then arrested for the theft of gas and possession of Marihuana. During a subsequent search of the vehicle it was discovered that there was a quantity of ATM bank machine parts, small cameras and cell phones. These items appeared to be modified for use in ATM bank machine fraud. This incident has resulted in an ongoing investigation being conducted by Northeast Region Crime Unit along with members of Superior East OPP. The items located may have been used in Western Canada and there is no evidence to indicate that any bank machines in Northern Ontario were compromised. To date the following charges have been laid in this incident;

John MENDOZA age 22 of WATERLOO, Ontario has been charged with
(1) Theft Under $5000.00, Criminal Code of Canada, (In relation to the theft of gas).
(2) Possess Instrument for use in forging credit cards, Criminal Code of Canada.
(3) Possession of Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana, Controlled Drug and Substance Act.

Pablo POSADA-MONTENEGRO age 21 of KITCHENER, Ontario stands charged with
(1) Theft Under $5000.00, Criminal Code of Canada, (Theft of gas).
(2) Possess Instrument for use in forging credit cards, Criminal Code of Canada.
(3) Possession of Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana, Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
(4) Fail to Comply with and Undertaking or Recognizance, Criminal Code of Canada.

Bishar SADIG age 28 of KITCHENER, Ontario stands charged with
(1) Theft Under $5000.00, Criminal Code of Canada, (Theft of gas).
(2) Possess Instrument for use in forging credit cards, Criminal Code of Canada.
(3) Possession of Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana, Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
These individuals will appear in Wawa Criminal Court at a later date to answer to these charges and this investigation is on-going and involves various law enforcement agencies.

ASSAULT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ADDITIONAL CHARGES

(MOOSONEE, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid additional assault charges against two individuals in relation to an altercation that occurred in Moosonee on October 3, 2009.

On October 3, 2009 officers responded to a house party where a physical altercation had occurred. As a result of the initial investigation by OPP officers from the Moosonee Detachment, a female was charged with Assault on October 4, 2009.

Due to the implication of an OPP member in this altercation, further investigation by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau and the North East Region Crime Unit was conducted. As a result, charges have been laid against two additional persons in relation to assaults on two persons who both sustained minor injuries:

Provincial Constable Tim BURGESS, age 45, a 22 year member of the OPP currently stationed at Moosonee Detachment has been charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code. Provincial Constable Burgess was off duty at the time of the incident.

Sharleen BURGESS, age 44 of Moosonee has been charged with Assault and Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code.

Both Sharleen BURGESS and Provincial Constable Tim Burgess are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice court in Moosonee on April 7, 2010.
