(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Once again the OPP and STOP officers will be patrolling the trails during the weekend. Please ensure that you carry your driver’s licence, your proof of insurance and the ownership papers for your machine.

Police would like to remind all snowmobile owners that aftermarket mufflers or straight pipes are illegal. It will cost you $110.00 if you're stopped and have one on your machine.

TRUCK AND TRACTOR TRAILER COLLIDE

(Highway 556, Hodgins Twp. Ont.) At 12:21 pm OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision 14 km east on the Ranger Lake Road between the pick up truck and a tractor trailer. Investigation revealed that the pick up truck ran into the logging truck. There were no injuries and the vehicles were driven away by the driver’s.

OHIO MAN INJURED IN SNOW MOBILE COLLISION

(Fenwick Twp. Ont.) At approximately 12:40 pm Goulais River First Response and the OPP responded to a motorized snow vehicle collision on the OFSC Trail approximately 1 km from the intersection of Old Goulais Bay Road and Pineshsores Road.

43 year old Ronald NELSON of Mason, Ohio was transported by ambulance to Sault Area Hospital where he remains in stable conditions.

A black 2005 MXZ Skidoo driven by Mr. Nelson failed to negotiate a turn at a high rate of speed and impacted a snow bank which caused him to be thrown from his machine.

A snow machine being driven by another Ohio man that was following had to take evasive action and also took to the snow bank. This man did not receive any injuries but his snow machine was damaged.

This accident is still under investigation.

TWO VEHICLES COLLIDE

(Kars Twp.) Two vehicles collided on Goulais Mission Road at approximately 01:20 am this morning. The roads were snow covered at the time. One vehicle attempted to round the corner eastbound and began sliding striking a westbound car in the westbound lane. There were minor injuries to a passenger of the westbound vehicle that did not require medical attention.

OPP AND S.T.O.P. OFFICERS OUT ON THE WEEKEND

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP and S.T.O.P. officers patrolled trails during this past weekend. 67 sleds were checked with 1 permit related charges laid and 1 not proper vehicle documentation charge was issued.

Police remind the public that an OFSC trail permit is required when riding the trails. Always have your proof of ownership, proof of insurance and driver’s licence with you.

THEFT IS THEFT!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On February 15, 2008 police received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the suspect allegedly walked by a cashier with items in a grocery cart and left the store without paying.

Police located and arrested the suspect.

Charged with Theft Under is Douglas CAMERON (40) of Elliot Lake. CAMERON is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2008.

R.I.D.E. PROGRAM EFFECTIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On February 17, 2008 officers of the East Algoma OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at the intersection of Highway 108 and Oakland Boulevard.

Police stopped a vehicle at approximately 1:29 a.m. and charged the driver.

Charged with Over 80 is Serge Marcel J. Godbout (20) of Elliot Lake. GODBOUT is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2008.
