(Sault Ste Marie Detachment) The intersection of Hwy # 17 and Hwy#17 B at the East end of the city of Sault Ste Marie are closed in both directions due to a protest taking place at that intersection. The public can expect a delay of approximately 1 hour between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please expect traffic to be backed up at that location.

TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN NUMEROUS CHARGES

(Blind River, ON.) In the early evening on December 2, 2009 an officer from the East Algoma Blind River OPP detachment stopped a vehicle on Causley Street in Blind River. While speaking with the driver, it was discovered that he had been drinking. The driver was brought back to the cruiser at which time police observed a baggie containing 5.5 grams of suspected cocaine in the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle resulted in police locating a firearm and crossbow. As a result of this traffic stop 59 year old Raymond George BERRY of Iron Bridge has been charged with the following six criminal offences:

1) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking -Cocaine
Section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

2) Fail to comply with a condition of an Undertaking 3 Counts
Section 145(5.1) Criminal Code

3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.00
Section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code

4) Breach of Firearms Regulation Section 86(2) Criminal Code

Mr Berry was also issued a 3 Day driver’s licence suspension for registering a warn on a roadside screening device and charged under the Highway Traffic Act for having a dirty licence plate and failing to notify his change of address. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Mr Berry was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
