Goulais River, Ont.,

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment are continuing their investigation of a motorcycle/van collision on Highway 17 north of Sault Ste Marie.

The preliminary investigation is indicating that a van and a motorcycle were both southbound on Hwy 17. The van was in the process of making a turn into a private drive when the motorcycle ran into the side of the van.

The operator of the motorcycle was taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries but succumbed to those injuries last night. The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator was called to the scene and is continuing his investigation.

The driver of the van, Douglas Masselink of Michigan, U.S.A. has been charged with Turn Not In Safety, under the Highway Traffic Act.

At the request of the family, the name of the deceased will not be released at this time.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO MOTORCYCLE/VAN CRASH

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment are still on the scene of a serious collision on Hwy 17 north of Sault Ste Marie.

The preliminary investigation is indicating that a van and a motorcycle were both southbound on Hwy 17. The van was in the process of making a turn into a private drive when the motorcycle ran into the side of the van.

The operator of the motorcycle has been taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance with what police believe are serious, life threatening injuries. The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Both drivers are not from Ontario. Police will not be releasing any names until all next of kin of both drivers have been notified.

Hwy 17 at the crash site is still restricted to one lane traffic. An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator was called to the scene.
