Seat Belt Campaign Activity

Sault Ste Marie Detachment and OPP Traffic and Marine officers checked 557 vehicles. Thirty six seat charges were issued. The public can expect intensive efforts over the next two weeks by all police services in Ontario. The goal of the seat belt campaign is to obtain voluntary compliance through enforcement and education. It is Sault Ste. Marie officers goal to reduce needless death and injury in Algoma District due to the lack of seat belt usage. It should be noted that your greatest risk of becoming involved in a crash is close to home and in a municipal environment. Almost all serious injuries or death that come about from crashes at speeds of less than 60 km/Hr are preventable by use of your seatbelt.
