(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – At 5:40 pm yesterday OPP and the Goulais River First Response were dispatched to a structural fire to a residence in the 100 block of Groth Road in Goulais River.

Investigation revealed that the fire had started in the bathroom area by a candle that had been left burning unattended. The homeowner had forgotten about it and left the residence. When the resident returned she noticed smoke coming from the bathroom area and called 911.

The structure sustained damage to the north portion of the home before being extinguished.

All persons and animals were out of the residence when the fire was discovered.

No foul play is suspected.

SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION SENDS ONE MALE TO HOSPITAL

(Garden River First Nation, ON) - OPP were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 East near Syrette Lake Road yesterday evening at 7:40 pm.

The 27 year old male driver lost control of the SUV he was driving hitting the north shoulder of the roadway, crossing the highway then rolling over several times. The driver was transported to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance with non life- threatening injuries. The vehicle was demolished. No charges have been laid. Had the driver not been wearing his seatbelt, the outcome would have been much more tragic. Make sure you do your part as a driver. Buckle up and make sure all your passengers and children are properly secured.
