Three arrested in drug bust with links to the Sault, Peterborough, Ottawa

PETERBOROUGH — Three men, including a Sault resident, are facing charges under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act after search warrants were executed in Peterborough, Ottawa and Sault Ste. Marie.

The Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and Peterborough Police Service Drug Unit began a drug trafficking investigation in the summer of 2024, which resulted in arrests in January 2025.

On March 3, officers conducted a vehicle stop and arrested an individual on drug trafficking offences.

Three search warrants were also executed in Peterborough, Ottawa and Sault Ste. Marie, the OPP said in a news release.

On March 6, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service then executed a search warrant in the Sault.

Police say the investigation resulted in the seizure of:

  • Approximately 635 g of suspected fentanyl
  • Approximately 60 g of suspected cocaine
  • Approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency
  • Four cell phones

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $133,000, police said.

Police services also involved in the case include officers from OPP Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau, Sault Ste. Marie OPP, and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP Community Street Crime Unit.

Jonathan Morningstar, 31, of Ottawa, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking - fentanyl.

Morningstar was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on April 17.

Antonio Williams, 30, of Toronto, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and possession for the purpose of trafficking of both fentanyl and cocaine.

Kyle McClelland, 20, of Sault Ste. Marie, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking of fentanyl and cocaine.

Williams and McClelland were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on March 31.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
