BLIND RIVER – Police say a Thessalon man being evicted from an apartment has been charged after allegedly spitting inside a police cruiser while being transported to the Ontario Provincial Police detachment in Blind River.

Police say that last Thursday at around noon, the East Algoma OPP attended an apartment on Main Street in Thessalon to assist a court enforcement officer sheriff with an eviction.

Police questioned the individual, which revealed he had multiple outstanding warrants and he was subsequently arrested, police said in a news release.

While being transported to the Blind River OPP detachment the accused spat on the cruiser's partition window, police say.

Police said as a result, Elliot Hamilton, 21, of Thessalon was charged with "mischief – renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or effective".

He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Aug. 22 and was remanded into custody.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Hamilton is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
