SUV hits pole, airbags deploy, motorist keeps driving: OPP

BRUCE MINES – Police say a driver from southern Ontario fled the scene in their vehicle with airbags deployed and hanging out the windows after an SUV hit a utility pole on Saturday afternoon in Bruce Mines. 

The East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said that at around 1 p.m. they responded to a crash involving a silver SUV that struck a pole on Cunningham Street.

Police said the SUV left the scene and continued westbound on Highway 17 toward Desbarats. 

According to a release, police located the vehicle at the Johnson Community Centre and arrested the driver. 

Samual Godda, 27, from London, Ont. is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive motor vehicle-no licence
  • Fail to report accident
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Elliot Lake on Oct. 3.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Godda is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
