Police say a wanted man from Toronto spotted at a gas station in Elliot Lake tried to hide from officers by lying down in the cab of the truck he was refuelling.

East Algoma OPP say on July 4, officers on patrol shortly after 8 p.m. observed a pickup truck known to them at a gas station on Highway 108.

An individual who was wanted by OPP was fuelling up the pickup, police said.

Once the suspect saw police pull into the gas station parking lot, the suspect attempted to hide from police by getting in the pickup truck and lying on the floor in the rear of the cab.

"The individual was subsequently arrested," police said in a news release.

Andrew Kirk, 45, of Etobicoke was charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order- other than to attend court (two counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on July 5 and was remanded into custody.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
