Mamainse Harbour, Ont., Two western Canada men were sent to Sault Area Hospital Friday morning after their car collided with two moose.

At about 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning a vehicle was traveling southbound on Hwy 17 about 2km north of Maimance Harbour, 125 kms north of Sault Ste Marie. A cow and calf moose crossed the highway in front of the car and the vehicle struck both animals.

The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to Sault Area Hospital were they were treated for minor injuries. The calf was killed in the crash and the cow was last seen disappearing into the bush. Both men are from the Calgary, Alberta area.

The car was destroyed and had to be towed. (photos attached to e-mail)


INCREASED TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT FINDS ANOTHER IMPAIRED DRIVER

Sault Ste Marie, Ont., A Sarnia man has had his licence suspended for the next ninety days and faces a drinking and driving charge from a traffic stop.

Early this morning at about 1:15 a.m. and officer with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment was behind a vehicle entering the east city limits on Hwy 17. The officers noticed the driver commit a traffic violation and pulled the vehicle over. The driver showed signs that he had been drinking and he was given a roadside test. He failed the roadside test and was returned to the police station for further examination.

As a result of this investigation thirty nine (39) year old Nigel JAGOO of Sarnia has been charged with one count of Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code. Mr. Jagoo will be asked to appear in Sault Ste Marie court on June 4, 2007 to defend his actions.

DOZY THEIVES DIDN’T GET AWAY

Garden River, Ont., Two southern Ontario men should have pick a better place than Garden River to have a crash with a stolen vehicle.

At about 11:15 a.m. this morning witnesses advised that a westbound black Honda car crossed the centerline of Hwy 17, across the eastbound lane and into the ditch on the Garden River First Nation. The car flew out of the ditch and the driver drove down a side road in Garden River.

Witnesses of the crash called police and followed the car a short distance until it went into a driveway. The suspects realized they were being followed and drove further down the side road and then fled the vehicle. Residents of Garden River saw some of suspect’s activities and were able to keep observation on the two until police arrived.

Officers from the Anishinabek Police, OPP and Batchewana First Nation Police were on the scene quickly and contained the area. The service of a police dog from the Sault Ste Marie City Police was requested and attended the area. The two suspects were tracked down by the police dog a short distance away from the area.

Two adult males aged twenty four (24) were taken into custody. The car was reported as stolen from southern Ontario. It appears that the driver of the stolen car fell asleep at the wheel causing the crash. Both men are being held in custody pending a W.A.S.H (Weekend and Statutory Holiday) court appearance tomorrow morning.
