Sault man accused of Highway 129 break-in

A safe, cash and an electronic device were stolen, say OPP

VILLENEUVE TOWNSHIP - On Mar. 3, 2017, shortly before 2 p.m., members of the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter that had just occurred at a local Trading Post on Highway 129 in Villeneuve Township.

Police learned that a male had broken into the restaurant part of the business and stolen a safe, cash and an electronic device. The vehicle was located travelling southbound on Highway 129 and a traffic stop was initiated.     

As a result, Gheorghe Bratu, 34 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with: 

  • Break, enter a place-commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Mischief under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Possession stolen property obtained by crime - under $5,000.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 4, 2017.
