A Sault Ste. Marie driver faces impaired driving charges following an early morning RIDE check in Parry Sound.
A news release issued today by the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) states that a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Joseph Derosario was stopped at approximately midnight today.
Full text of the OPP release follows:
PARRY SOUND - On Aug. 20, 2021 at approximately 12 a.m., members from the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Bowes Street in Parry Sound. Officers stopped a vehicle and initiated an investigation.
As a result of further investigation, Joseph Derosario, 45 years of age of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., was charged with:
• operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) CC
• driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound Sept. 16, 2021. The accused was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
This charge marks the 64th driver charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the West Parry Sound Detachment area in 2021.
