ESPANOLA - On July 23, 2019 at approximately 2:31 a.m., an officer from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol when he observed a traffic violation at the intersection of Syroid Street and Centre Street in the Town of Espanola, Ont.
The officer stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Steven Burt from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., has been charged with:
• operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
• operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Sept. 16, 2019.
