A Sault Ste. Marie driver has been accused of using somebody else's licence following a traffic stop in Thessalon Sunday night.

East Algoma OPP responded to a speeding complaint near Iron Bridge at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Police say officers located the suspect driving on Highway 17, at Highway 17B in Thessalon, and initiated a traffic stop.

“The driver handed the officer an Ontario Driver's Licence with a photo that didn't resemble the driver,” says a news release issued by the OPP.

Brittany Newton, 34, is charged with:

    •    Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
    •    Driving while under suspension
    •    Speeding
    •    Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

Newton is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on July 6. None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
