Sault driver accused of going 160 km/h in a 90 zone

32-year-old had their licence suspended and vehicle impounded

GARDEN RIVER FIRST NATION - On April 25, 2020, members from the Sault Ste. Marie Highway Safety Division (HSD) and Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team were conducting radar patrol on Highway 17, Garden River First Nation, Ont.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a westbound vehicle for traveling in excess of 160 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

As a result of further investigation, a 32-year-old person from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. was charged with the following:
    •    Two counts - failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5((a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
    •    Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the HTA.

The driver's licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 5, 2020 located at 426 Queen St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
