COLLISION CLAIMS ONE LIFE (Serpent River, Ontario)
At about 7:00 p.m. last night, a vehicle driven by Theresa Recollet Pine, age 36, of Serpent River First Nation, Cutler Ontario, was travelling eastbound on Highway 17 approximately 2 kilometers east of the Elliot Lake turnoff.
The Pine vehicle lost control, hitting the south side guard rail and came back onto the highway. An eastbound tractor-trailer vehicle then hit the Pine vehicle.
The passenger, Lionel Joseph Pine, age 39 of Serpent River First Nation, Cutler Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Theresa Recollet Pine, age 36, had been flown to Sudbury General Hospital by air ambulance but she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Robert Andre Roy, age 57, of Quebec, was not injured in the accident.
This collision remains under investigation.
At the time of the accident Highway 17 had slushy sections.
