Richards Landing resident accused of impaired driving

The accused was charged after police responded to a traffic complaint

ST JOSEPH TWSP – On May 5, 2020, at approximately 2:55 p.m., members from the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on St Joseph Island.  

A short time later officers located the vehicle on Hwy 548 near Richards Landing. After speaking with the driver, officers concluded alcohol had been consumed.

As a result of the investigation, James Cruickshank, age 60, of Richards Landing, was charged with:  

  • Operation while impaired-Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and with  
  • Operation while impaired-Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.  

The accused was released by way of undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 2, 2020. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
