One person is facing charges after being accused of trying to run over a dog with a vehicle.
Ontario Provincial Police were told of the alleged incident on Oakridge Road in Thessalon First Nation at around 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.
However when officers arrived, the driver was gone.
At around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, officers spotted the suspect driver leaving a building on Main Street in Thessalon.
OPP say the suspect ran off, but the public helped officers find them on Water Street.
Douglas Richard, 30 years-old from Thessalon First Nation was charged with:
- Uttering Threats-damage or injure animal
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code - three counts
- Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court - five counts
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Drive while under suspension - two counts
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
