TOWNSHIP OF NORTH SHORE – Police say they seized thousands in cash that they allege are the proceeds of crime after a traffic stop near Algoma Mills.

Two residents of southern Ontario are now facing charges.

On Aug. 21 at around 8 a.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver heading eastbound on Highway 17 from Iron Bridge.

At around 8:30 a.m., police observed the car and conducted a traffic stop east of Algoma Mills.

"While speaking to the driver police determined the driver was impaired by drug and was arrested," the OPP said in a news release.

Police said the passenger failed to identify themselves and was also arrested.

Police searched the car and located a small amount of suspected marijuana readily available, as well as more than $23,000 in Canadian currency as well as drug paraphernalia, according to the OPP release.

As a result, the driver, Kevin Nyadu, 30, of Kitchener was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-drugs
  • Possession of proceeds of property crime over $5,000
  • Drive motor vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The passenger, Manasseh Tutu Osei, 30, of Oakville was charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Both are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 3.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Nyadu and Tutu Osei are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
