OPP investigating sudden death near Blind River

MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION – Police are investigating the death of a southern Ontario resident on a First Nation near Blind River in the early morning hours Sunday.

The East Algoma OPP say that on Dec. 10 shortly after 2:30 a.m., OPP officers and members of the Algoma Paramedic Services responded to an unresponsive person call at a residence on Eli Street in the Mississauga First Nation.

A 49-year-old from Whitby was found to be deceased at that location prior to emergency services arriving, the OPP said in a news release.

Police did not indicate if the deceased person is male or female.

The cause of death is not known at this time, police said. 

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

A postmortem examination is expected to take place in Sudbury.
