A Spanish resident is facing charges after an ATV evaded a RIDE check in that community over the weekend.

OPP say officers were set up along Brennan Harbour Road early Sunday when they spotted the vehicle at around 1:30 a.m.

“The vehicle then fled westbound on Brennan Harbour Road, turned into a driveway, and entered a trail heading toward Lake Huron,” OPP said in a news release.

Police followed the ATV tracks which ended in a swampy area where the vehicle was stuck and abandoned by the driver.

Fresh footprints led police back to Brennan Harbour Road, then into a wooded area.

“As they advanced, the sound of breaking branches was heard, and shortly after, the driver emerged from the tree line and was arrested,” OPP said.

Matthew Pilon, 24, from Spanish was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to comply with probation order-two counts
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Disobey stop sign

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
