OPP find body of missing kayaker

The investigation into his death is ongoing

The OPP's Underwater Search and Rescue Unit found the body of 23-year-old Kyle Buswa-Virta after a two day search.

Buswa-Virta was reported missing on Sunday, when he didn't come back from a kayaking trip to Driving Lake north of Garden River First Nation.

Units from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment, OPP's North East Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Aviation Services- Helicopter, the Underwater Search and Rescue Team (USRT), Batchewana First Nation Police Service, Sault Ste Police Service (arial search with a drone), Sault Ste Marie Search and Rescue (marine) responded and searched the area from around 10:30 p.m. on June 5 until his body was discovered around 3:30 p.m. on June 7.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS).

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in Sault Ste. Marie at a later date.
