Four drivers have been charged with impaired driving this month by the OPP’s Sault Ste. Marie detachment.

Police say they all were pulled over on busy roads in the afternoon or early evening.

The first driver was charged as a result of a RIDE checkpoint that was set up on Highway 556 near Searchmont just before 3 p.m. on Oct. 12.

Officers believed the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages and say he was also prohibited from driving a vehicle.

Thomas Jaeger, 45, of Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

In addition, the accused's vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Then at 5:49 p.m. on Oct. 14, officers spotted a vehicle driving slower than the flow of traffic in the passing lane on Second Line West.

Robert Wildman, 53, of Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to keep right when driving at less than normal speed

On Oct. 26, officers patrolling Fourth Line West after 4:30 p.m. saw a speeding vehicle. When they pulled the driver over, police suspected he was impaired by alcohol.

Daniel Thornton, 40, of Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Then at 4:36 p.m. on Oct. 27, someone called police to report a vehicle swerving in and out of its lane on Highway 17 south of Wawa.

Witnesses said the vehicle nearly caused several head-on collisions by going into the oncoming lane.

Officers pulled over the vehicle on Highway 17 near White Lane Drive in Goulais River.

Ryan Koski, 45, of Thunder Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
