One killed in Highway 548 two-vehicle crash (update: deceased named)

8:48 p.m. update:

Ontario Provincial Police have named the victim of the two-vehicle crash on Highway 548 south of Humburg Pointe Road and V Line Road in St. Joseph Township.

OPP say 87-year-old Herman Eisele, from Hilton Beach, was pronounced deceased at hospital.

A post mortem examination will be taking place in Sault Ste Marie. A date for the examination is not known at this time.

Police say investigation determined a northbound car on Highway 548 lost control, entered the oncoming lane, and collided with a pick-up truck.

The two occupants of the pick-up were transported to hospital in Richards Landing with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash, which took place at 11:34 a.m. today, closed Highway 548 for several hours while officers investigated. The highway is re-opened at this time.

OPP have confirmed that one person has died as a result of this morning's two-vehicle collision in St. Joseph Township.

Officers say the crash, which took place on Highway 548 south of Humburg Pointe Road and V Line Road in St. Joseph Township at approximately 11:34 a.m., is still under investigation.

The highway was closed this morning and afternoon, but has since re-opened in both directions.
