One dead in single-vehicle crash south of Wawa

Three occupants were uninjured, and the highway is now fully re-opened

On Monday, Aug. 6, 2019 at 12:44 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, with the assistance of the Algoma Emergency Medical Services and the Wawa Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 30 kms south of Wawa.

The investigation has since revealed that a single motor vehicle left the roadway striking a rock cut. Three occupants of the motor vehicle were uninjured, however, one passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is on-going at this time with the assistance of Technical Collision Investigators.

Highway 17 was closed for several hours, but is now fully re-opened.
