Officers seize suspected fentanyl, cocaine and meth, charge two with trafficking

Two from Garden River First Nation face serious possession and drug trafficking charges

On March 3, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. members from the North East Region Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit, Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment, Sault Ste. Marie Emergency Response Team, Anishinabek Police Service, Batchewana Police Service and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant on a residence in Garden River First Nation, Ontario.

Once the search warrant was completed, officers seized a quantity of suspected purple fentanyl, suspected cocaine and suspected crystal methamphetamine.

 As a result of the investigation, Myriah Beaulieu, 22 years-old from Garden River First Nation, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drug, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,

Cynthia Jones, 37 years-old from Garden River First Nation, Ontario has also been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drug, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid - (other than heroin) contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 6, 2020 located at 426 Queen Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
